Recently a number of clients have contacted WLM in regards to a tax refund being offered by the ATO. This is a scam and the Tax Office has had a warning about this on the website for over 5 years.

The email, “Important Notification” with a ‘Tax Refund Form’ attached. It says that a refund has been found, which is mentioned in an AUD ($) amount, and will be credited to your credit card if you provide the details on the form.

The Tax Office advise that they never send out emails to taxpayers asking them to provide personal information including credit card details. They also advise that people type internet addresses directly into personal internet browsers rather than clicking on hyperlinks embedded in emails.
